According to the Nobel Prize website and Reuters, the awards will be announced starting from next Monday (October 5th). The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine will be announced first on October 5th, followed by the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Literature, and Peace. The Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, awarded by the Swedish Central Bank, will be announced on October 12th.
In 2026, it marks the 125th anniversary of the first Nobel Prize being awarded, and the prize money is also increased. The Nobel Foundation announced in September that the prize money for each award in 2026 will increase from the previous 11 million Swedish kronor (about 7.34 million RMB) to 12 million Swedish kronor (about 8.01 million RMB), an increase of 1 million Swedish kronor, or approximately a 9% rise.
The executive director of the Nobel Foundation, Hanna Schurrne, stated that increasing the prize money is necessary to maintain the long-term impact of the Nobel Prize and to ensure the actual value of the prize money itself.
The Nobel Prize was awarded for the first time in 1901, with each prize money being 150,782 Swedish kronor. Since then, the amount of the prizes has been adjusted several times. In 2012, due to the foundation's enhanced financial management, the prize money was reduced from 10 million Swedish kronor to 8 million Swedish kronor. It has since gradually increased again, reaching 12 million Swedish kronor this year.
The award ceremonies will take place on December 10th, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death. The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, and Economics will be awarded in Stockholm, Sweden, while the ceremony for the Nobel Peace Prize will be held in Oslo, Norway.
