According to AFP, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran issued a statement on October 1, expressing welcome for the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, calling it a 'historic victory', and calling for the US troops to withdraw from the Middle East.
We congratulate the proud Iraqi people, the united front of the Islamic resistance force, and revolutionary fighters of the Islamic world on this historic victory. The Revolutionary Guard issued a statement through official media.
In 2014, the United States led an international coalition and deployed troops in Iraq and Syria to combat the extremist organization ISIS. ISIS was defeated in Iraq in 2017 and again in 2019 in Syria. However, coalition forces continued to remain there to combat remnants of the organization.
Earlier on September 30th, the U.S. Department of Defense issued a statement announcing that the international coalition led by the United States to combat ISIS had concluded its military mission in Iraq on that day.
On the same day, Iraq celebrated its "Day of Sovereignty", a symbol of national independence and dignity, to mark the withdrawal of U.S. troops. Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Alizzi, stated that the end of the international coalition's mission marked an era in which Iraq would take full responsibility for maintaining national security and stability.
"The United States must leave the region and hand over security management to the people of all countries." The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated in a statement: "Twenty years of occupation have shown that American presence has not brought about safety; rather, it is precisely the source of insecurity, terrorism, and instability in West Asia."
Iraq's government previously stated that with the withdrawal of international coalition forces, the reason for Iraq's pro-Iran armed factions to continue retaining weapons also disappeared.
Zaidi announced on October 1st that the new deadline for armed factions to hand over their weapons to the state is June 30th, 2027.
On September 30 local time, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform "Truth Social" saying that he was happy to announce that the last batch of U.S. troops was leaving Iraq. Trump said, "It has lasted too long. It was those very bad decisions that led us into this mess, but soon all of this will become history."
