According to the BBC, on September 25 local time, an Iranian court upheld a sentence of 74 lashes for the famous singer Parsa Ahmaradi, who was punished for not wearing a mandatory headscarf during her performance.
The 29-year-old Ahmed, during an online live performance in December 2024, wore a sleeveless dress and did not wear the traditional Hijab. The performance footage quickly spread online, with millions of views.
Iranian law prohibits women from performing publicly, and requires them to wear headscarves and appropriate clothing.
The Iranian judicial authorities immediately filed a lawsuit against Ahmaadi, claiming that the performance "violated laws and cultural regulations."
In June this year, the court's first-instance judgment found that Ahmadi and his band, along with a team of eight members, were guilty of producing and releasing "obscene and indecent content" and "offending public morality".
Apart from 74 lashes as a punishment, they were also prohibited from engaging in any activity related to sight or sound, and were forbidden from leaving the country within two years.
The lawyer stated that on September 25th local time, the higher court rejected Ahmed's appeal without holding a hearing.
