According to a report by the Iranian WANA news agency on September 29, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s executive committee said that after the US military imposed a maritime blockade on Iran, the volume of railway cargo transported from China to Iran has increased tenfold. By activating land routes such as railways, Iran can export about 400,000 barrels of oil per day through non-maritime routes.
Regarding the railway transportation volume between China and Iran, Zou Hulian, a member of the Iranian Parliament Presidium, said that after the US military imposed a maritime blockade on Iran, the railway freight volume between China and Iran has increased significantly due to consultations and the activation of new routes.
Zohrian said that although railway transport cannot completely replace maritime transportation, it can be used as an alternative route in emergency situations. In normal circumstances, it also helps to ensure the security of Iran's foreign trade.
According to a report in the Tehran Times on September 22, Amir Roshanbakhsh Ghanbali, deputy head of international business development at the Iranian trade promotion organization, said that Iran is negotiating with China regarding the development of railway lines for transporting goods. Some Iranian goods have already been transported to China via the Azard land port in central Iran.
