According to British Reuters, British counter-terrorism police stated on the 28th local time that the five men arrested at the RAF Base in Fairford, England, are suspected of terrorism and explosives crimes. They are all British citizens from London, and all aged in their 20s.
The Fairford Air Base is home to American bombers that carry out military missions against Iran. Reuters cited sources familiar with the investigation, saying, “Motives related to Iran are considered the most likely direction of the investigation, but investigators are also considering possibilities such as Russian sabotage or attacks planned by Islamists.”
Previously, a local farmer provided clues to the police, stating that three large white van trucks were heading towards Fairford Air Base. Subsequently, the police arrested five suspects in the early hours of the 27th.
On the 28th, in response to the claims that the incident might be related to Iran, the Iranian Embassy in the UK issued a statement on the X platform, stating that it firmly rejects and strongly condemns the unfounded and malicious speculation made by certain British individuals and media.
"This kind of fabricated speculation—particularly in the context of U.S. and Israeli regime's aggression against the Iranian people—has proven to be the only viable option aside from inciting Iranian fearmongering in Britain."
