According to a report by the Associated Press on September 27, large-scale shooting incidents have occurred in Gauteng Province and Western Cape Province in South Africa, resulting in at least 27 deaths.
South African police said that the first shooting incident occurred on the evening of the 26th local time, in the town of Vedra, in the region of Hautland Province. Eight suspects armed with AK-47 assault rifles and pistols broke into a bar, indiscriminately shooting at people present before fleeing. The incident resulted in 17 deaths and 15 injuries.
The second shooting incident occurred in the early hours of the 27th local time, in the town of Luvandel in the Strand area of Western Cape province. The shooter broke into a store and opened fire, resulting in the death of 10 people and the injury of 11 others. The police stated that there were multiple suspects involved in this case, but did not disclose the exact number.
As of now, South African police are pursuing two major mass shootings suspects, but have yet to apprehend anyone.
According to the Associated Press, South Africa has always faced the challenge of high crime rates. Recently, frequent shootings have further increased public anxiety. Just a few days ago, a large-scale shooting incident occurred near the city of Durban in South Africa, resulting in the death of 11 people, including a pregnant woman.
