According to reports from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), on September 27 local time, the British police reported that a 'major incident' occurred near a large U.S. Air Force base in the southwest of England. Locals were evacuated, and several men were arrested for suspected violations of the Explosives Act.
Police statement reads: "The Military Explosives Handling Team is conducting inspections on multiple vehicles."
Local residents have been evacuated to a nearby leisure center, and security measures have been put in place at the scene. The police said, "We believe the situation is under control. We are working closely with all relevant parties to implement an emergency plan that has been thoroughly rehearsed."
Fairford Royal Air Force Base is home to the United States Air Force. Since February this year, this base has become a key hub for U.S. military operations against Iran. Heavy bombers such as the B-1 “Stealth” and B-52 “Stratofighter” are deployed here.
In March this year, then-British Prime Minister Sturme approved what was described as a “defensive” operation by US forces against Iranian missile facilities from British bases. Subsequently, four US bombers landed at the RAF Fairford base, and the US side began carrying out “defensive operations” using British bases.
