According to a report by the American CBS network, on September 25th, local time, an American official stated that after Iran proposed to open the Strait of Hormuz and suggested resuming negotiations following its proposal for acceptance, the United States is engaged in 'active and constructive' discussions with Iran.
The official stated that the United States is not in a hurry, as it is in an advantageous position. He noted that within the past 48 hours, nearly 40 million barrels of oil have passed through the Strait of Hormuz under American escort.
Earlier that day, Iran’s Foreign Minister Alaaghiari told reporters that Iran had informed the U.S. mediator of a seven-day plan this week. If the conditions specified in the proposal are met, the Strait of Hormuz will be open at the end of the seven-day period, and negotiations between both parties will be resumed in order to reach a final agreement.
According to reports, the terms of the plan largely follow the contents of the ‘14-point’ memorandum of understanding signed by U.S. President Donald Trump in June this year.
US Ambassador to the United Nations, Kurt Koch, who was involved in the related work of the memorandum of understanding, and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner also met with Iranian officials during their visit to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
