From September 23 to 25 local time, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the United States on an official diplomatic mission. During this period, the two heads of state exchanged in-depth views on constructive strategic relations between China and the United States, as well as major international and regional issues. They reached eight points of consensus, including:
1. The two sides agree to establish “constructive strategic stability relations between China and the United States based on respect, fairness, and equality”.
II. Both sides agree to support each other in hosting the APEC Economic Cooperation Council (APEC) Informal Meeting and the G20 Summit. The heads of state of both countries intend to attend the meetings hosted by the other side.
III. The heads of state agreed that Iran should fulfill its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, and no country or institution shall impose tolls on international waterways.
IV. The two heads of state recalled that China and the United States were allies during World War II, working together to win the war.
5. The heads of state recognized the positive role of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism, as well as the outcomes of consultations between the two economic and trade teams. This included the establishment and advancement of mechanisms such as the Trade Council, the reach of an “$30 billion” reciprocal tariff reduction agreement, and the extension of the outcomes of the Kuala Lumpur economic and trade consultations. They instructed to implement these agreements.
VI. Cooperation between Chinese and American anti-drug law enforcement agencies has achieved visible results. Recently, both sides have worked closely together to crack down on several cases involving new psychoactive substances and precursor chemicals. Dozens of suspects involved in these cases have been arrested in both countries.
7. Both parties agree to establish dialogues on artificial intelligence between China and the United States, to exchange information on the risks and benefits associated with artificial intelligence. The next dialogue will be held in November this year. Both parties agree to establish communication channels for matters related to artificial intelligence.
8. The US side welcomes the arrival of a pair of giant pandas that China has leased from the Atlanta Zoo in the United States.
In addition, the Chinese and American military have agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding to strengthen crisis communication and prevention as soon as possible, and to continue working together to search for the remains of American soldiers missing in China.
