On September 24th, a statement was released on the website of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Starting from September 19th, 2026, Colombia will officially sever its diplomatic relations with Iran.
Brother Fang stated that this decision is based on the core principles of the national government regarding 'national security', 'hemispheric security', and 'foreign policy in combating transnational crime'.
Additionally, Colombia stated that this measure also takes into account the fact that the Hormuz Strait has been blocked.
The brother informed the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs about this measure, stating that according to Article 45 of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and Article 2, paragraph 3 of the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the severance of relations does not mean the termination of consular relations.
Accordingly, the Colombian Protocol Department will inform the Iranian side of the subsequent procedures that need to be carried out.
