According to Fox News in the United States on September 24, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that Iran is still willing to continue negotiations according to the agreement signed with the United States in June this year. He also signaled concessions on the nuclear issue, including reducing the enrichment of uranium and accepting external verification.
Peyzajizyan was interviewed by Brett Beyer, the host of Fox News’ “Special Report” program, that day. Speaking about the previous US-Iran negotiations, he said, “We did indeed reach an agreement with your president. The agreement has been signed, and on this basis, we are willing, and still hope to continue moving forward.” He also stated that both sides had reached a consensus regarding the relevant framework at that time.
Fox News reported that Pezeshian referred to a memorandum of understanding signed with U.S. President Donald Trump in June this year. According to the agreement, both parties were to cease hostilities and initiate a 60-day process to seek a more comprehensive U.S-Iran agreement.
Regarding the lack of progress in negotiations since then, Pezeshijian attributed the blame to the United States. He said that the US side did not continue the dialogue but instead chose to launch military strikes and block the channels for negotiations. “We were prepared,” he said, “this is not the way things should be done on the world stage.”
The nuclear issue was also a focus of this interview. When directly asked whether Iran sought to possess nuclear weapons, Pervaziziyan replied twice “not at all”, and cited a religious decree by Iran’s late supreme leader regarding the prohibition of weapons of mass destruction.
In response to doubts about Iran's ability to enrich uranium to a 60% concentration, Pervaziziayan further stated that Tehran is willing to reduce the enrichment level. "This is not a major problem," he said, and Tehran is also open to external verification. He noted that the outside world can inspect the relevant materials owned by Iran, but opposes using blockades and pressure as methods.
Pezeshian also emphasized that Iran has no intention of continuing the war. “We have never sought war, and we do not seek war,” he said. He stated that if Iran is attacked, it must defend itself; as for whether the current conflict can be ended, “the United States must make a choice.”
