According to Reuters, on September 25th local time, when asked about President Trump's decision to ban three media organizations from entering the White House, Pope Leo XIV reiterated his support for freedom of the press.
On that day, Leo XIV took a flight from Rome to Paris. During a meeting with reporters on board the plane, he was asked about the disputes between Trump and the media.
Leo XIV, who is from the United States, had previously engaged in a dispute with Trump over criticism of the Iran war. In his response, he did not mention Trump by name, but emphasized that news reporting is "very important."
"I am very happy that everyone here can be welcomed," said XIVth Emperor Lio. "In my view, news reporting is of paramount importance and everyone should have access to all-round information."
On September 18th, local time, U.S. President Trump posted on social media, stating that he would ban CNN, MS NEWS, and POLITICO from entering the White House, “because they continuously report false news.”
The next day, journalists from these three media outlets were successively refused entry to the White House, and their journalist licenses were revoked or taken away on the spot. Subsequently, all three media outlets stated that they would continue to report on the Trump administration and were prepared to defend the right to interview based on the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.
On September 21 local time, the banned three media outlets sued the Trump administration, demanding the immediate restoration of journalists’ access to the White House for interviews.
On September 24 local time, a U.S. federal judge ordered the Trump administration to temporarily lift the ban on three media journalists entering the White House. The White House stated on the same day that it had restored the interviewing rights of the three media journalists after the judge ruled that Trump’s ban was likely unconstitutional.
