Recently, the conflict between the Houthi forces and Saudi supporters of the Yemen government has continued to escalate. According to Reuters, on September 25, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reported that due to the war, it was difficult for medical services and relief centers to reach areas, leading to an increase in cases of acute malnutrition among Yemeni children, including many severe cases.
UNICEF Yemen representative told reporters that over the past three weeks, approximately 71,000 children have been forced to leave their homes due to conflicts.
In some accessible areas of Yemen, screening was conducted on nearly 2900 children, and it was found that more than a quarter of them suffered from acute malnutrition. Among these children, 200 were identified as suffering from severe malnutrition.
UNICEF estimates that this year, there will be 2.2 million children under the age of five in Yemen suffering from acute malnutrition, with potentially over 500,000 suffering from severe acute malnutrition.
