According to Bloomberg's report on September 24th local time, the youth organization 'Crab People Party' (CJP), which led one of India's largest student protests in recent years, demanded that India's Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign within 48 hours. They also threatened that if Kumar did not step down, they would launch another round of protests.
The founder of the ‘Rotten People’ Party, Abhijeet Dipke, issued this ultimatum at a press conference in New Delhi. Previously, a survey report by The Indian Express reported that two of the three members of the Indian Election Commission had repeatedly opposed decisions related to the reform of the voter rolls, and some of these decisions were made without the knowledge of the two commissioners. The Indian Election Commission denied there being any internal disagreement.

Currently, the opposition parties in India are also demanding the dismissal of Kumar, accusing him of marginalizing two other members of the electoral committee. The ‘Acholi People’s Party not only made this request but also called for a suspension of all upcoming elections and the cessation of the ongoing voter roll revisions. They also proposed the establishment of an independent committee to investigate these decisions. Saurav Das, the co-chairman of the ‘Acholi People’s Party, also demanded that criminal proceedings be initiated against Kumar.
Dipec said that the ‘ cockroach People’s Party will launch protests across the country, with a sit-in protest in Delhi. The details will be announced soon. Das said that if voters’ right to vote is denied, the organization’s efforts to review public school infrastructure, address issues related to school personnel and facilities, and combat corruption will become meaningless.
Initially, the “Rotten People’s Party” emerged in May this year as a satirical online movement. It later led a youth protest that lasted several weeks, focusing on issues related to exam cheating. The party demanded that Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resign.
Later, Pradhan finally resigned in July. After that, members of the “Cockroach People’s Party” continued to carry out activities across India, inspecting public schools and urging local governments to address relevant issues.
