On the morning of September 24 local time, U.S. President Donald Trump held a grand ceremony at the White House to warmly welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to the United States.
When Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan arrived at the White House by car, President Trump and his wife Melania warmly greeted them at the exit. The two heads of state took a photograph together.

Ladies and gentlemen, friends:
I am very pleased to have this state visit to the beautiful United States. I would like to thank President Trump and his wife for their warm hospitality towards me and my wife. First of all, on behalf of over 1.4 billion Chinese people, I would like to send my sincere regards to the American people, and extend my warm congratulations on the 250th anniversary of America's independence!
Both China and the United States are great nations. The people of China and the people of the United States are also great people. I have come to the United States at President Trump's invitation, in order to inherit our friendship, to expand cooperation, and to improve the well-being of the people of both countries.
Facing the changes in the world, the times, and history today, the two major powers, China and the United States, bear the historical responsibility of promoting human development and progress.
During President Trump's visit to China this year, we unanimously agreed to establish constructive strategic relations between China and the United States, which was widely welcomed by the people of both countries and the international community. I am willing to work together with President Trump to ensure that the relationship between China and the United States remains stable and sustainable.
We need to strengthen communication. China and the United States have different national conditions, through honest, in-depth, sustained dialogue we can deepen understanding, achieve mutual agreement while differing, and accumulate trust. I respect President Trump and have established a good relationship with him; we maintain regular communication. We encourage departments across all areas of diplomacy, trade, finance, law enforcement, and humanities to enhance communication, and support the expansion of inter-agency exchanges within the two countries' legal systems.
——We should cooperate sincerely. The interests of China and the United States are deeply intertwined, and there is ample room for cooperation. Although cooperation between the two countries cannot solve all problems in the world, many issues in the world would be difficult to address without cooperation between the two nations. China remains open, welcoming American companies to invest and establish businesses in China. We hope that the United States will treat Chinese enterprises fairly and work together to expand our list of cooperative projects and reduce the number of issues that need to be addressed. Both China and the United States are major powers in artificial intelligence, and we have the ability and responsibility to develop and manage artificial intelligence effectively, ensuring that its development is under human control and benefits the people. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen cooperation with the United States in areas such as anti-drug efforts and law enforcement. Both sides could increase direct flights, making travel and economic exchanges between the two countries more convenient.
——We should live in peace. I have repeatedly said that for two major powers like China and the United States, cooperation benefits both of them, while conflict harms both. There is no need to avoid discussing competition between China and the United States, but such competition should be healthy and within boundaries. It should be a race where both sides strive to improve, rather than a battle of winners and losers. Both China and the United States must stick to the principle of not engaging in conflict or confrontation. They will surely find a way to coexist correctly as two major powers on this planet. The military forces of both countries should maintain regular dialogues and improve crisis communication and prevention mechanisms. The "Thucydides Trap" can be overcome.

During World War II, China and the United States stood together against fascist aggression. The Chinese people will never forget this period of history, and so will the American people. Sino-US relations are based on the people and the future, which lies in the youth. Here, I would like to announce that in the next five years, China will invite 100,000 American youths to study and interact with us.
The giant panda is an ambassador for the friendship between the Chinese and American peoples. Today, I would like to share some good news: in a few days, the giant pandas "Pingping" and "Fushuang" will be introduced to the Atlanta Zoo, where they will meet with the American people.
