According to RIA Novosti's report from September 8th, local time, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated in an online interview that the European Union is training so-called 'special observers' who will 'secretly monitor' the elections of the Russian State Duma.
"We have been informed that the EU has begun training some 'special observers' who will secretly supervise the process of our elections." Raflov noted.
“They should reflect on their actions. In 2004, in Ukraine, it was the Western forces who forced a third round of voting to take place. The Ukrainian Constitutional Court was supposed to uphold the country’s fundamental laws, and there were no provisions in the constitution regarding a third round of voting. They forced the court to make that decision,” continued Lavrov. “And indeed, they did so. In the end, Yushchenko came to power, not Yanukovych.”
The Russian foreign minister also mentioned the elections in Romania in 2025. “In the first phase, everything was absolutely clean, and no observers noticed anything unusual. The winner advocated not blindly following Brussels’ instructions, but rather clarifying Romania’s national interests. Even though there wasn’t any evidence to be seized, he was still ‘driven out of the race’, and that’s how it ended.” recalled Lavrov.
It is reported that the ninth elections for the State Duma of Russia will take place from September 18 to 20 this year. This is the first national parliamentary election in Russia since the country launched a ‘special military operation’ against Ukraine in 2022. The State Duma is a permanent legislative body in Russia, composed of 450 representatives. The last elections for the State Duma were held in September 2021.
