According to an report by the British-based 'Iran International Television' on August 8 local time, the editor-in-chief of Iran's prominent hard-line newspaper 'World News' called on the judicial and security departments to investigate the remarks made by two former presidents, Hassan Rouhani and Mohammad Khatami, regarding the end of the war.
The editor-in-chief of Le Monde, Houcine Shariat-Madari, accused the two former presidents of misinterpreting "defense" as war, and of glorifying the "surrender to the United States and Israel" as the pursuit of a "glorious peace".
Hosain Shariat Madari cited the recent statements of the two individuals, stating that their claims have a “common and extremely suspicious origin,” and align with American objectives.
"The judicial and security departments must not let this go lightly. Once a mistake is repeated, it is no longer a mistake, but a pattern." said Hossein Shariatmadari.
Mohamed Khatami stated on August 16th that after successfully forcing the enemy to accept Iran's existence, Iran can achieve prosperous development with dignity, by avoiding tensions and promoting social welfare.
"One believes that one can continue to fight with the enemy forever through war. This viewpoint is incorrect. Dear fellow compatriots, we cannot survive by fighting wars. In other words, the people cannot survive by fighting wars; continuing to live and meet basic needs while governing society are all impossible." Hatami said.
Hossein Sariaat-Madari was previously appointed directly by Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and was known as the "representative of the Supreme Leader".
"Iran International Television" is a private, foreign-based media organization primarily serving Iranian domestic and overseas diaspora audiences. The media claims to be independent and fair, but has long been classified as "hostile media" by the Iranian government. Its reports frequently focus on criticizing the voice of Iran, and its funding background also raises controversy.
