US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on the same day that the closure of the airport could lead to “a lot of delays and flight cancellations,” reminding passengers to be prepared for potential travel disruptions.
The Federal Aviation Administration in the United States confirmed that the involved aircraft was a Boeing 767-300 cargo plane, which took off from San Juan, Puerto Rico before the incident. Amazon stated that this aircraft was operated by the cargo airline 21 Air.
Photos taken on the scene by Reuters show that the aircraft's nose was on the ground, its tail was raised, and there were suspected signs of burning on the right side of the fuselage.
Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nentel said that the company is still investigating the details of the accident and is working with local authorities and relevant departments to conduct the investigation. She stated that the most important thing at present is to ensure the safety of all involved personnel and provide them with proper care.
