According to the French newspaper Le Figaro, on the evening of September 6 local time, Fabien Roussel, the national secretary of the French Communist Party, officially announced his participation in the 2027 French presidential elections. He stated that he hopes to bring about change in France by proposing a 'political program that brings about a thorough transformation'.
Roussel stated in a statement: "This is a well-considered decision, which has also received widespread support. Over the years, I have been traveling throughout France to understand the difficulties faced by our compatriots and their desire for change." Using "Life" as his campaign slogan, he promised to promote "projects that bring about fundamental changes for the country" during his campaign.
Roussel is the current mayor of Saint-Amand-le-Sec in France. He previously served as a member of the National Assembly and was re-elected as the national secretary of the French Communist Party in July this year. This is Roussel's second participation in the French presidential elections. In the 2022 elections, his vote share was only 2.28%.

Rousselet's announcement of his participation in the 2027 elections has raised concerns among some other left-wing parties in France. They fear that this will intensify divisions within the left-wing movement, causing Jean-Luc Mélenchon, a popular candidate on the left and leader of the "Indomitable France" party, to lose some votes.
The French newspaper Le Monde mentioned that during the 2022 elections, some members of the party 'Indépendant France' openly criticized Rousselet, accusing him of preventing Meynier from entering the second round of voting. In the first round of the 2022 French presidential elections, current President Macron received 27.85% of the votes, while far-right candidate Marine Le Pen received 23.15%. Meynier finished third with 21.95% of the votes and was thus unable to enter the second round of voting.

Regarding the contradictions within French left-wing political parties, Rusell responded by saying he doesn't want to "discuss other people" during the campaign. He claimed: "The problem with the left lies in it not being France's majority party; I hope to be able to contribute to the left regaining its majority seat."
"Le Figaro" reports that in the 2024 French National Assembly election, Rousseau lost to a far-right nationalist coalition in the traditional electoral constituency of northern Normandy. Therefore, Rousseau's primary task is to regain support from the French working class, which will focus his campaign on industrial and labor issues.
