According to AFP, a fire broke out at a market in the Papua region of eastern Indonesia on September 7 local time, resulting in the death of 11 people, including 6 children.
The fire broke out in Panyai Town, Central Papua Province, Indonesia. Despite the local fire department deploying multiple fire trucks, the fire that continued for over three hours destroyed at least 40 shops and houses. A local police spokesman said that the fire was extremely intense, and many houses and stalls were located very close to each other, which made firefighting efforts take a long time.
Currently, the Indonesian police have identified 11 bodies, including 5 adults and 6 children. The police revealed that the children who died were between 2 and 9 years old.
The exact cause of the fire is still unclear. The police speculate that the fire may have been caused by an explosion in a drone battery. The Indonesian government is investigating the exact cause of the fire.
