According to a report by the Russian Satellite News Agency on September 6, Oleksandr Belyazirov, president of the Russian Railway Company, stated that Russia and China are expanding the capacity of existing railway ports and discussing the construction of new railway lines.
During the Eastern Economic Forum, Belozerof said in an interview with the Russian newspaper 'Messenger': 'There are four railway ports between Russia and China, all of which operate efficiently. The work we are currently doing is to expand the existing lines, but new lines are also under discussion.'
According to him, the freight volume with China is increasing. He pointed out that the railway transport volume will reach a new high in 2026.
Previously, according to information released by the Russian Railway Company, in the first seven months of 2026, the volume of railway cargo transported between Russia and China increased by 6%, reaching 114 million tons, setting a record high.
According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, from January to July 2026, bilateral trade between China and Russia increased by 26.3% year-on-year, reaching $159.24 billion. Of this amount, China's exports to Russia amounted to $72.84 billion, a growth of 29.5%; imports from Russia reached $86.4 billion, a growth of 23.7%.
