According to a report by The Washington Post on September 3, U.S. President Donald Trump announced in the evening of Thursday that Adam Telle, the current Assistant Secretary for Civil Engineering of the Army, will serve as the acting secretary of the Army, replacing the previous secretary, Daniel Lessecker, who resigned this week. This change may be related to U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis.
Trump posted on the "Truth Social" platform to announce this appointment, writing: "He is a great patriot, and respected by everyone."
As the Assistant Secretary of Army for Civil Engineering and Public Works, Tiller is responsible for overseeing public engineering functions and civil works, and promoting the Trump administration’s priorities in areas such as waterways, ports, and flood control infrastructure managed by the Army Corps of Engineers. Trump announced that Tiller has taken over as acting secretary of army immediately.
The day before Trump announced this news, former Defense Minister De-Ris-Coel resigned. De-Ris-Coel was a close ally of Vice President Pence; he had been at odds with Heggesir within the military for several months prior to this.
According to this media, Driskell’s resignation highlights Hagersey’s ambition to impose his own will on the Army. This Pentagon official has recently dismissed several high-ranking officers, including General Randy George, the Army Chief of Staff, and General Chris Donahue, the U.S. Army Commander for Europe and Africa.
DeRicco first discussed his resignation on Tuesday evening, stating that Wednesday would be his last full working day as minister, but did not disclose the reasons for his departure.
Driscoll stated in his statement: "As a third-generation military veteran, it is a privilege for me to serve as the Army Secretary under President Trump and Secretary Hagel. Tomorrow will be my last full working day in this position. Our soldiers, civilian staff, and their families are the best group in the nation, and they inspire me every day. I am deeply grateful for their contributions and sacrifices."
It is reported that Tiller served in the White House Legislative Affairs Office during Trump’s first term in office. In August last year, he was confirmed by the Senate with 72 votes to 22 votes, serving as Assistant Secretary for Civil Engineering Affairs.
