According to the Vietnam News Agency, on September 4, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam issued a statement stating that General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam, Su Lin, will be visiting Russia and France from September 7 to 12. A senior delegation from Vietnam will accompany Su Lin during this visit.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this visit was arranged at the invitation of Russian President Putin and French President Macron. Sulin will also attend the International Space Summit in Paris, France, from September 9th to 10th local time.
The Kremlin website reported that Putin and Sulyn will hold talks at the Kremlin on the 9th, discussing the current state and future development of their comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam. The focus will be on areas such as trade and economy, science and technology, education, cultural exchanges, as well as security and defense cooperation. Both sides will also exchange views on issues related to international and regional agendas.
After the talks, it is expected that Russia and Vietnam will sign a package of bilateral documents.
British Reuters commented that Su Lin just finished her visits to Australia and New Zealand last month. Such frequent overseas visits indicate that the Vietnamese government is seeking to deepen relations with its major partners in order to cope with the uncertainties facing Vietnam's trade. Vietnam's economy is highly dependent on exports, with the United States being its largest export market. However, President Trump's policy of reducing the trade deficit has strained relations between the two countries.
