At the beginning of last month, German police announced the discovery of a drone near Leipzig Airport. It was reported that the drone was equipped with an explosive device. Germany immediately targeted Russia, and on September 1st local time, it officially accused Russia of "plotting drone attacks," and announced the closure of Russia's consulate in Bonn.
According to Russian TASS, Russian President Putin responded to the actions of the German government on the 2nd. He said that Germany used the drone incident at Leipzig Airport as a pretext to introduce new anti-Russian measures, which is another 'serious mistake' that goes against the interests of the German people.
Putin believes that the decision of the German government is mainly related to its domestic political situation, especially the difficulties faced by German Chancellor Merz. He commented that the Merz government failed to improve Germany's economy, resulting in a decline in the living standards of German citizens, and thus lost the trust of the people.
Putin said: "German companies are closing down, people are losing their jobs, and living standards are declining. People don't understand why this is happening. There's only one reason that can explain it: the need to confront a 'aggressive Russia'. But where are the proofs? Well, now they've presented what they call 'proof'."
He criticized that Germany used the drone incident at Leipzig Airport as an excuse to introduce a new round of anti-Russian measures. This is another ‘serious mistake’, and ‘in my opinion, this clearly goes against the interests of the German people’.

Previously, on August 5th, German police discovered a ‘dynamite-filled drone’ near a Ukrainian transport aircraft at Leipzig Airport, resulting in the airport being closed for a period of time. The German government immediately targeted Russia, implying that this incident was related to Russia, which denied such claims.
On September 1st, local time, the German government officially accused Russia of ‘plotting bomb drone attacks’. German Foreign Minister Waderpuhl said at a press conference: ‘The German government is taking measures against Russia, as it is the mastermind behind the attack in Leipzig. I have coordinated with the German Chancellor and ordered the Russian consulate in Bonn to close on September 18th.’

The Russian Embassy in Germany stated that the German government also terminated an intergovernmental agreement signed between Germany and Russia in 2011 regarding activities at cultural and information centers. This means that the Russian Center for Science, Culture and Society located in Berlin, the capital of Germany, will also be closed.
Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Netschey refuted the German accusations, saying that Germany had "prematurely created a provocative incident." The accusations were baseless and absurd. Netschey warned that relations between Russia and Germany have reached an all-time low, and the decision of the German government constitutes an "unprecedented escalation" that will have consequences.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhalalova said on the 2nd that Russia will take a "strengthened response," and the relevant measures will be announced soon.
