On August 30th, a suspension bridge in Indonesia collapsed during its inauguration ceremony. Dozens of people, including local government officials, were on the bridge at the time, and the celebration quickly turned into a terrifying scene.
The video shows that a rope of the 60-meter-long, 3-meter-deep wooden suspension bridge suddenly broke. People on the bridge clung tightly to the collapsed bridge structure, trying to avoid falling into the river. Shouts of shock could be heard from the spectators at the scene.
The Indonesian military stated that no one was killed in this accident, but several local residents suffered minor injuries and scratches, including the local county governor and officials from the Public Works Department.
A spokesman said: “At the time of the accident, more than 50 people were on the bridge at the same time, exceeding the bridge’s rated load capacity. As a result, the sling on the left side of the bridge came off from its main fasteners, causing the bridge to tilt.”
Currently, this bridge is closed for emergency repairs. At the same time, officials are investigating its structural strength and integrity.
