According to Reuters reporting on September 1st local time, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek that if the United States resumes fulfilling its commitments under an interim agreement signed in June, Iran will take corresponding actions immediately.
"I explicitly declare that if the United States fulfills its commitments as stated in the Memorandum of Understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately take corresponding action." He said.
Reports indicate that Pezeshian refers to a temporary agreement signed between Tehran and Washington in June aimed at ending the war. This US-Iran conflict began on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched attacks against Iran. Due to differences regarding the implementation of the agreement, it quickly collapsed.
Tehran has repeatedly stated that ships will only be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz if Washington fulfills the terms of the agreement.
Previously, on the evening of August 30 local time, the U.S. Central Command announced an air strike against the Iranian island of Larak near the Strait of Hormuz, destroying two rocket launch facilities on the island. This was the first military strike against Iranian targets by the United States in over a month. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran subsequently confirmed that the U.S. air strike resulted in casualties among Iranian soldiers and civilians.
On August 31 local time, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement stating that in response to the aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran’s Laleh Island, the Revolutionary Guard launched missiles and drones to destroy two US Air Force bases located within Jordan, as well as damaging the technical and maintenance infrastructure at those bases. The attacks also caused significant damage to the locations where fighter jets were deployed.
