A letter was written to Singapore’s Prime Minister Wong Chun Wai. The “application” for the 6-year-old girl Sarah, who does not have a younger sibling, has now received a response from Mr. Wong Chun Wai. He told her, “You don’t need my approval to continue being the youngest child in the family.”
According to the Singapore-based newspaper The Straits Times on August 31, earlier, Sarah took seriously her mother Humairah Suhaimi's joke about being pregnant. She believed that if she didn't want more siblings, she would have to submit a "request" to Prime Minister Wong Chun-yit. Worried that the new members might take away her parents' attention, Sarah wrote a letter to Wong Chun-yit on August 26, pleading for permission to "no longer have more siblings."
According to reports, Suhaimi initially only intended to let his daughter practice writing and did not really want to send the letter. However, Sarah became more and more involved in writing. Finally, Suhaimi decided to send this letter, which contained some bold remarks, and sent an email to the Prime Minister’s Office to explain the circumstances surrounding the writing of the letter. To Suhaimi’s surprise, on August 31st, she received a reply from Huang Xuncai.
Huang Xuncai thanked Su Haimei in his email, and also asked Su Haimei to thank Sarah for writing to him on her own. Huang Xuncai specifically assured Sarah: ‘You don’t need my approval to continue being the youngest child in the family.’
