Recently, Venezuela and the United States reached a large-scale oil cooperation agreement. According to U.S. President Trump, the United States will gain “major control” over more than 65 billion barrels of oil reserves that have been discovered in Venezuela.
According to Bloomberg, many Venezuelans accuse acting President Delcy Rodríguez of 'surrendering' the country's oil resources. Rodríguez, however, has stated that the agreement is 'historic,' involving 17 strategic oil fields, and will generate $209 billion in tax revenue.
Regarding this, Russian renowned political scholar Dugin believes that Rodriguez is equivalent to 'Judas of Latin America', and his actions constitute a 'betrayal of the revolution'.
On August 30th, Du Jin posted on the X platform: "Venezuela, Venezuela... the homeland of Bolivar and Chavez. What are you doing? This is a betrayal of the revolution, a shameful act... Delcy (Rodriguez), you are the Judas of Latin America. You have saved Satan at his weakest moment."
Since January this year when the US military forcibly captured Maduro, the Trump administration has been trying to use its influence to pressure Venezuela and strive to control Venezuela's rich mineral and oil resources.
Trump has repeatedly boasted that a large amount of Venezuelan crude oil and oil revenue is flowing into the United States.
According to the latest agreement with MEC, the U.S. government will no longer merely act as an intermediary for U.S. companies investing in oil in Venezuela, but will instead become a direct investor.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the agreement will grant a private joint venture company between the US and Venezuela a 100-year concession for oil fields. The US will receive 55% of the ‘effective output’ of this new joint venture company, including equity and the right to purchase oil at cost price.
Bloomberg believes that this plan marks an unprecedented economic intervention in the history of a South American country.
