According to a report by CBC on August 26, as the trade war between U.S. President Donald Trump and Canada continues to escalate, a city councillor in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, said it was time to rename a street in the city that was named after Trump.
Ottawa’s “Trump Avenue” is located in the Central Park community along Murrayville Road. In 2021, there was a proposal to rename it, but after public consultation, it was found that residents had mixed opinions on the matter, resulting in the renaming plan being abandoned.

However, Councillor Riley Brodin of that constituency stated that given Trump's repeated threats to Canada's sovereignty and economy, this street now constitutes a "shameful situation" that should be resolved completely.
On the riverside designated area, there is actually a Trump Street. Just thinking about this makes me feel embarrassed; in our capital, it's still using this kind of commemoration to memorialize Donald Trump. He said.
Brookinton said that after the next election, he will work with the residents of Trump Drive to initiate the process of renaming the street. He is determined to complete this task.
"Take a look at the damage and serious harm caused by this president. This also includes the damage to our Canada, I think it's time for us to let go of this argument." Broden said. "The issue doesn’t need any more arguments now."
In the Ottawa Central Park community, there are several streets named after New York, such as Staten Street and Gramercy Park Street.
When Brodinton made these remarks, the parliament was debating a motion by Mark Scullyf, the mayor of Ottawa, aimed at supporting local businesses in Ottawa that have been affected by the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on Canadian exports worth 28 billion Canadian dollars.
When asked about the proposal to rename Trump Avenue, Scully said that this would cause a lot of trouble for the residents on the street: residents would need to replace their driver’s licenses, and all contacts would need to be informed to update their postal addresses.
He believes that it is still necessary to seek the opinions of local residents, but at the same time, he has stated his position.
"If I were in charge, Ottawa would have no place or thing named after Donald Trump." Sackville said.
Several residents of Trump Drive believe that this is the right time to change the name of the street.
"Donald Trump and Canadians have a serious clash," said resident Lana Usman, "He's not someone worth praising in Canada, he doesn't deserve to have a street named after him."
John Jermano, who lives on this street, believes that Trump Avenue should be renamed.
"This incident made everyone feel embarrassed," John Jermalano said, "All things related to this person should be cleared from Ottawa, either by revoking them directly or imposing tariffs on him and sending the name back.”
Not all residents interviewed by Canada Broadcasting Company support changing their names.
“‘Trump’ this name fits the overall New York theme of the Central Park district,” Doug Gimore said. He also added that Borough President Brokinton should put his energy into solving more pressing problems than this.
Trump posted on social media on the 25th, saying: "We are seriously considering renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America', as it is expected that there will be no further economic and trade interactions with Ontario, Canada in the future."
According to the US newspaper The Hill, Canadian Industry Minister Mélanie Joly rejected President Trump's suggestion to rename Lake Ontario as "American Lake" on the same day. She stated that Canadians would always refer to it as Lake Ontario.
