On August 26th, flash floods occurred in the Rishawar area of northern Nepal.
According to Bloomberg's report on the 28th, Nepal's Minister of Finance, Swarnim Vagra, stated that the post-disaster reconstruction efforts for this flood disaster will require at least several billion dollars.
Vagler said that the search and rescue efforts for the first phase of disaster response have already begun. In the second phase, the government plans to establish temporary shelters to ensure basic supplies such as food, drinking water, electricity, and communication services.
This finance minister added that the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and other organizations have pledged to provide humanitarian aid funds. Neighboring countries such as China and India have also successively delivered relief materials and provided financial support to Nepal.
Previously, Nepal’s only billionaire, Binojod Jodhri, told Bloomberg that post-disaster reconstruction would cost $5 billion. “The problem is not just a matter of funding; it also requires a significant amount of time.”
Nepal said that this flash flood has confirmed at least 469 deaths, and the number of casualties is expected to continue rising in the coming days.
