According to a report by Reuters on August 24, a four-day survey conducted jointly by Reuters and Pew Research Group concluded that Americans' support for the war in Iran has dropped to its lowest level since the conflict began. President Trump's popularity also remains at a historical low.
This survey involved 1,215 American adults, with an error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points. Among them, only 31% of Americans supported military action by the United States against Iran, which is a decrease compared to the 37% support rate in March and the 34% support rate at the beginning of this month.
The main reason for the decline is the decrease in the number of Republicans who support this conflict. Approximately 69% of Republican voters supported this war, compared to 77% in March.
According to Reuters, the war in Iran has been dragging down Trump’s public support this year. Only 33% of respondents agreed with Trump’s performance, which is the lowest level of support for Trump during his two terms in office in this poll.
Reports indicate that about 83% of Americans believe this war will last “for a long time,” which is higher than the 80% rate at the beginning of this month. During his campaign activities leading up to the 2024 presidential elections, Trump promised to control inflation and avoid long-term military conflicts. However, six months after starting the war with Iran, gasoline prices in the United States have risen by more than one dollar per gallon compared to before the war.
According to reports, in this poll, when asked who they would vote for if mid-term elections were held today, independent voters preferred Democratic congressional candidates over Republican ones—with a support rate of 33% compared to 19%.
