On August 25th local time, Oman and Iran issued a joint statement.
The statement says that Oman's Foreign Minister Badir visited Iran for a working visit, and held constructive consultations with Iran's Foreign Minister Aghazai.
The focus of negotiations between the two sides was on the issue of ensuring safe navigation in the Hormuz Strait, while both countries also emphasized the importance of maintaining their respective sovereignty and rights.
The statement indicates that, in light of the recent war and its impact on the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz, both parties discussed a phased framework that can provide a practical foundation for advancing subsequent related matters.
According to Xinhua News Agency reports, the proposed framework includes establishing a jointly agreed security shipping corridor in the Hormuz Strait. Common arrangements will be made regarding the operation of this corridor. A coordination mechanism involving both countries' coast guard forces will be established. Continued coordination will be needed regarding the future management of the Hormuz Strait, information exchange, traffic management, and related navigation and safety services.
Both parties also emphasized that consultations should be conducted with other countries along the Persian Gulf, in accordance with applicable international law and respect for the sovereign rights of coastal nations.
