According to Yonhap News, on the 26th, the Kyungbuk Police Station in Gyeongsan, South Korea, revealed that the Chinese suspect, Zheng (in his 30s), involved in the case of the Chinese female student A (25 years old), is suspected of destroying and abandoning part of A's body. The police are searching at burning sites and other locations. The university where the victim studied confirmed that Zheng was a Chinese lecturer at that university and that he knew the victim.
The police confirmed through CCTV footage that Zheng entered his residence with A at around 2 a.m. on the 20th. When the two entered the residence, there was no evidence on the CCTV showing Zheng forcing or coercing A. The police found that A last contacted his family during this time through social media platforms.
At approximately 22:30 on the 20th, Zheng left his residence alone. He dressed as a woman and wore a hat to cover his face, while also carrying the victim’s suitcase. The police suspect that the clothing he was wearing at the time belonged to A, but it was not the clothes A wore when he entered Zheng’s residence that day. Currently, the police are investigating the origin of the clothing through on-site examinations and other methods.
After leaving his residence, Zheng went to Dongdaegu Station and turned off the power to A's phone near the station. The police also confirmed that Zheng changed into male clothing in a toilet near Dongdaegu Station and returned to his residence. At around 19:05 on the 21st, Zheng reported A's disappearance to the police. Zheng claimed to be A's boyfriend and told the police, "She said she was going to Daegu, but we couldn't reach her later." The police believe that Zheng's series of abnormal actions were intended to interfere with the police investigation. A relevant police officer stated that they would consider charging Zheng with the crime of obstructing public order enforcement.
Additionally, the school confirmed that Zheng had previously served as a lecturer at the university where A studied. School officials said that Zheng and A are both Chinese citizens and that they knew each other before. According to local Chinese students, Zheng generally gets along well with students and also knows A. Currently, the police are further verifying the specific relationship between the two individuals.
It is reported that A went to South Korea to receive his graduation certificate, so that he could report to his new employer in China. The police began interviewing Zheng face-to-face at 9 a.m. on the 26th. They plan to request a arrest warrant by 7:30 a.m. on the 27th, and the arrest may take place as early as the 28th. According to reports by Yangzi Evening News, the 25-year-old Chinese female student Wenwen (a pseudonym, referred to as A in Korean media) went missing during her trip to Korea to collect her graduation certificate. Her sister said in an interview that Wenwen entered Korea on August 14 and had already bought a flight ticket back to Changchun from Incheon, Korea, scheduled for August 23. The last video call between the two was at 11:34 PM on August 19. By August 20, Wenwen had not contacted her at all throughout the day.
On the evening of August 25th, according to Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese Consulate General in Busan stated on the 25th that after verification with the Korean police, a Chinese female student who had been missing for several days was found dead on the same day. The police have arrested a man in his thirties on charges of homicide.
