Regarding this, Lin Jian stated that China has always advocated that all parties resolve their respective economic and trade concerns through equal dialogue and negotiation.

On August 22nd, local time, the US imposed a 50% tariff on approximately $20 billion worth of Canadian goods, including wine, dairy products, cement, clothing, and ice hockey equipment. The tariffs took effect early in the morning on that day. On the same day, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada had suspended trade negotiations with the US and would implement a reciprocal countermeasure against the new US tariffs, which would take effect on September 8th.
On August 24 local time, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that starting from January 1, 2027, the United States will raise tariffs on all Canadian cars, trucks, automotive parts, and steel to 50%. Products manufactured in the U.S. will be subject to “zero tariffs”.
On August 25th, local time, Canada responded by officially imposing retaliatory tariffs of up to 50% on American goods worth approximately $20 billion. Canadian officials stated that the tariffs would apply to 900 categories of goods.
