According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on August 24, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Kuwait's Foreign Minister Jalal in Beijing.
Wang Yi said that the traditional friendship between China and Kuwait has a long history. Kuwait was the first Gulf Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with New China. The father of the Minister is the first Gulf Arab leader to visit China after the founding of New China. Over the past half century, the two countries have always worked together harmoniously. The level of political trust between them has been increasing, the foundation of mutual cooperation has become stronger, and the path of friendship has become broader. This has led to the establishment of a model of international relations characterized by mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. China always attaches great importance to its relations with Kuwait. We are willing to take the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to build a strategic partnership between China and Kuwait that is more solidly based, of higher quality, and more effective.
Wang Yi stated that China supports the Kuwaiti people in pursuing a successful development path that is suitable for their country, under the leadership of Emir Misha al-Khalifa. China believes that Kuwait will continue to support China's just positions on issues involving China's core interests. Both sides should continuously expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields, achieve more tangible results, and benefit the people of both countries better. China hopes that Kuwait will ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects in Kuwait. It is also important to continue improving the facilitation of people-to-people exchanges and to strengthen the popular foundation for bilateral friendship. China is willing to maintain close cooperation with Kuwait on the multilateral stage and jointly defend the principles of multilateralism and the legitimate rights and interests of the Global South.
Wang Yi emphasized that the current situation in the Middle East and Gulf region has once again reached a critical point. The old script of conflict should not be repeated, and a new chapter of stability and prosperity should be opened as soon as possible. China always believes that, no matter how significant the differences are, solutions should be found at the negotiating table, rather than being decided in the sound of guns. Since the steps towards a ceasefire have already been taken, there is no point in going back. It is hoped that the parties will actively respond to the international community's expectations for peace, and work towards returning to dialogue and negotiations, with the well-being of the people of the region as the priority. The immediate task is to cool down the situation. China is willing to strengthen coordination with Kuwait and continue to contribute to restoring peace and stability in the region.
Jelach said that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Costa Rica. The Costa Rican side values the deep traditional friendship between the two countries and highly appreciates the great development achievements made by the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. It also expresses sincere gratitude for the long-term selfless assistance provided by China to Costa Rica, which has supported Costa Rica in maintaining its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Costa Rica firmly adheres to the principle of one China and is willing to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state.
