The runners who crossed the finish line of the Sydney Marathon with pride will receive a medal commemorating the landmarks along the route. However, on this medal, there is a building that they did not see during their race.
According to The Guardian's report on the 22nd, the medals were incorrectly engraved with a stadium in Munich, Germany, rather than a local landmark in Sydney. The event organizers admitted that this was a “regretful mistake”.
Earlier this week, the Sydney Marathon official posted on the social media platform Instagram about the design of the medal: "The meaning of this medal goes beyond what is apparent on the surface. Every detail tells the story of Sydney... Pay close attention, and you will discover the story of the course in the details."
The organizers said: “The beautiful Sydney skyline makes the racecourse stand out prominently, presenting the landmarks that runners will pass along the way—starting from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and ending at the world-famous Sydney Opera House.”
However, one of the 'landmarks' on the medals is the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, rather than the Sydney Allianz Stadium that is part of the marathon course.

The organizers of the Sydney Marathon said: "We will not avoid this issue. It is indeed a regrettable mistake. But the significance of the medal remains unchanged. It is still a beautiful medal, just now more unique than ever."

The Sydney Marathon will be held on August 30th. The organizers of the marathon expect that this year, more than 40,000 people will participate in the event. This medal is considered a “honorary badge” for those who have completed the entire 42.2-kilometer race.
