According to the Japan Economic News, from January to July, Chinese mainland tourists accounted for 10.1% of all visitors to Japan, which is far lower than the 22.8% during the same period in 2025.
Since Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Akamine made incorrect remarks regarding Taiwan, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Japan has continued to decline.
According to Japan Mori Building Co., Ltd.'s analysis, the number of visitors to Japan will decline by 2% to 5% by 2026, with the number of visitors ranging from 40.5 million to 42 million.
The Japanese government has set a goal to achieve 60 million tourists visiting Japan and generate 15 trillion yen in tourism revenue by 2030.
The Forest Building pointed out that this goal can only be achieved if, after 2027, tourist visits to Japan from all sources except mainland China maintain an annual growth rate of 10%.
