On June 5th, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference.
Some reporters asked that we noticed recent views from Western media suggesting that the global AI competition has entered a phase of China-US rivalry, which could intensify the competition among different technological factions. At the same time, Chinese and American tech companies have recently implemented several cooperation projects in areas such as large-scale artificial intelligence models. Many industry experts are calling for collaboration between the two countries in the field of AI. What is Chinas view on these developments?
Mao Ning stated that artificial intelligence is profoundly transforming ways of production and living. It represents a new challenge that humanity must confront together. Artificial intelligence is not a monopoly of major countries, nor should it lead to competition and confrontation. The Chinese side has always adhered to the principle of making artificial intelligence more human-centered and open and inclusive. We have proposed initiatives for global governance in artificial intelligence. Over the past eight years, we have organized the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. We also advocate for the establishment of a global organization for cooperation in artificial intelligence. The core goal is to build an open, equal, fair, and non-discriminatory environment for the development of artificial intelligence through dialogue and consensus-building, as well as deepening cooperation.
Mao Ning said that in July this year, China will host the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and a high-level meeting on global governance of artificial intelligence in Shanghai. He expressed his hope that this conference will serve as an opportunity for in-depth exchanges and dialogue with various parties, thereby strengthening global governance in the field of artificial intelligence and promoting the use of artificial intelligence services for all humanity.
