Philippine School Shooting Incident

According to the Philippine newspaper 'Daily Visor', a school shooting incident occurred on the campus of a private school in San Bautista City, a southern Philippine city, on the morning of August 18th, local time.

According to reports, the shooting occurred at the middle school department of AdZU University in Salahadah City.

The university subsequently confirmed in a statement that the shooting resulted in the death of two people and the school administration “expressed deep sorrow”.

The statement says that the school has immediately contacted parents and guardians to pick up their children. Those still on campus have been properly settled by school staff.

According to Associated Press, in this incident, a high school student carried two guns and committed suicide after shooting a classmate.

Three Treasures Market Mayor stated that the suspect was wearing a body-worn camera and streamed the attack live. Two others were injured.

San Baba City Government issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident. Officials stated that they are working closely with school management, the San Baba Police Department, and other relevant agencies. The authorities assured the public that the situation is under control, and appropriate security measures have been taken.

Local officials have called on the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, rumors, photos, or videos, in order to prevent unnecessary panic or interference with the police's ongoing response and investigation.

In the Philippines, crimes involving firearms are relatively common. Part of the reason is the widespread availability of illegal firearms, but school shootings are relatively rare.

According to the Associated Press, in June this year, a shooting incident occurred in a central Philippine city, resulting in the death of three high school students and at least 20 injuries. Subsequently, the Philippine government promised to strengthen security measures in schools across the country. However, another shooting incident still occurred.
