According to a report by European News TV on August 16th, Romanian Defense Minister Radu Dinel Miruțesc confirmed that two Spanish fighter jets deployed by NATO in Romania had shot down an unidentified drone near the Moldovan border.
Mirotic said that two Spanish F-18 fighter jets received an order to be deployed at 4:44 a.m. local time on the 16th. They intercepted and destroyed a drone in the Moldovan border area. He stated, "Romania is defending its airspace, and our allies fight alongside us. Vigilance, rapid response, and unity—these are the concrete guarantees of our security."
Romania has not yet confirmed the exact origin of this drone, only stating that it entered Romanian airspace without authorization.
European News TV reported that before this incident, the Ukrainian capital Kiev was subjected to a large-scale aerial attack by Russia. Russia reported that Ukraine deployed over 600 drones to attack Moscow.
