According to a report by The Hill newspaper on August 12, during the podcast hosted by Katie Miller, the wife of the White House Deputy Chief of Staff and a conservative internet celebrity, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson revealed that after Trump was elected, no inquiries were made regarding his nomination as Secretary of State. Instead, he directly called Trump and said, “You’re going to be Secretary of State.” In fact, Trump announced this decision to the public even before receiving the call.
When asked whether he was the one who sought the position of Secretary of State or if it was Trump who invited him, Rubio said, “I’m not sure if ‘seeking’ is the right word. Basically, he just called me and said ‘you’re going to be the Secretary of State’, and that wasn’t something that was offered as an option.”
Rubio said that the entire process was more like an assignment rather than negotiation. He recalled having a vague feeling during the election campaign that there might be such arrangements, “But that was during the campaign period. I didn’t mention it, and he didn’t discuss it either. But probably around 48 or 72 hours after the election ended, not much longer. He just called me and said, ‘Hey, here’s what happened…’ I remember he even published a statement before telling me about it.”
Rubio also revealed that he has daily conversations with Trump. The president usually starts calling around 6 a.m., and sometimes even after 2 a.m. He believes that Trump does not have a fixed schedule, and he keeps working on whatever tasks come his way.
In the podcast, Rubio also shared amusing stories about living next to Defense Secretary Hagel. It is reported that both men reside at the Leslie J. McNair Army Base in Washington. This military residential area has become the home of several Trump administration officials, in order to avoid protests and potential violence.
Rubio said that their dog is “very smart” and knows how to open doors. Meanwhile, Haggess is unexpectedly a “cat lover”. “I often come home at night, and his cat sits on my front porch, staring at me as if to say ‘What are you doing here?’”
One day, Pete (·Haggerst) and his family were sitting together watching TV, the front door wide open—because they had a cat. I never thought Pete liked cats before. He continued, "His dog 'directly walked' into Haggerstone's living room," looking around, realizing 'I must have gone into the wrong room,' then turned to leave.
