On that day, Putin was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the cable car. Reports state that the cable car is scheduled to be officially opened in May next year.
Putin said, "This is a great project with significant importance. There is no doubt about that. I will ask my colleagues to follow up on this matter and ensure that it receives proper attention at the national level. We will also communicate with our Chinese friends to make sure this joint event is well-organized."
According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, the tower structure and supports of this ropeway have been installed. The steel wires of the ropeway will connect Heihe City with Blagoveshchensk City. According to Zhang Qijun, deputy director of the Heihe District Management Committee of China’s Heilongjiang Free Trade Pilot Zone, on August 2, the main construction work of the Heihe-Bragovissensk cross-border passenger cableway project has been completed. The entire project is expected to be finished within this year, and by then, the efficiency of personnel exchanges between China and Russia will greatly increase. This is the first cross-border cableway project between China and Russia, which started construction in July 2019.
Cao Xinhong, the chairman of Heihe City Jinlonggang Construction and Development Co., Ltd., said that the cableway has a horizontal length of about 970 meters. The cableway operation system is one of the more advanced equipment systems in the world. It has two carriages, with each carriage capable of carrying 110 people. The fastest operating speed is 12 meters per second, and it takes 6 to 8 minutes to transport passengers one way. The annual designed one-way transportation capacity is 2.6 million passengers.
Zhang Qijun said that Heihe City and Blagoveshchensk City are facing each other across the river, with a distance of only about 750 meters between them. There is a close economic and cultural exchange between the two cities. After the completion of the cross-border cable car, Heihe City will establish a three-dimensional cross-border transportation system consisting of 'bridges + ferries + cable cars', which will promote the coordinated development of industries such as tourism, logistics, and trade in the border areas of both countries.
