According to an article in the Israeli Times dated August 6, Roman Gofman, head of the Israel Intelligence and Special Operations Agency (Mossad), has dismissed two senior officials from the agency. The reason for this dismissal is that Mossad's previous secret plan targeting Iran was not successfully implemented.
According to sources, the two officials who were dismissed were the head of Mossad intelligence and the person in charge of Iranian affairs. They planned a scheme to subvert Iran’s regime. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu discussed this plan when he urged the United States to take action against Iran in February. However, the plan encountered setbacks during its implementation, and ultimately it was not successfully carried out.
Sources revealed that according to Mossad’s plan, Israel will attack positions of the Revolutionary Guard in northwestern Iran and along the border between Iran and Iraq. This would create an opportunity for Kurdish militants to enter Iran, and then encourage Kurdish people in northwestern Iran to join the battle.
Mossad also believes that by uniting the Iranian minority communities, it is possible to launch a “mass demonstration involving millions of people,” thereby overthrowing the current Iranian regime and supporting other Iranian leaders to come to power.
The Israel Times reports that in the early stages of the war, the United States and Israel did launch fierce attacks on security forces in northwestern Iran, attempting to ‘clear the way’ for the Kurds. However, due to information leaks, lobbying by Turkey, and the Kurds’ vigilance towards the US and Israel, the U.S. government ultimately abandoned this idea.
The American newspaper The New York Times previously reported that Netanyahu confidently predicted that the United States and Israel could quickly overthrow Iran’s current regime and destroy Iran’s missile program within a few weeks. Although the CIA later criticized Netanyahu for making “absurd predictions” after the war came to a standstill, Trump and his advisors initially believed Israel’s claims.
