Chinese Fishing Vessel Rescues Sierra Leonean Fishermen

According to Xinhua News Agency on August 7th, recently, the fishing vessel ‘Yuan Yu 708’ of Zhong Shui Group Yuan Dong Co., Ltd. rescued five Sierra Leonean fishermen in the waters off Sierra Leone.

The crew of the ship said that it was raining heavily and the waves were very rough at the time of the incident. Captain Wang Pingchao of the vessel 'Yuan Yu 708', who was engaged in production operations, spotted a small fishing boat sending distress signals from the horizon. He immediately stopped fishing operations and directed the ship to move at full speed towards the area where the incident occurred.

Upon arriving at the scene, the small fishing boat was completely submerged. The five fishermen lacked life-saving equipment and faced risks of hypothermia and drowning due to prolonged immersion. The crew of the "Yuan Yu 708" ship immediately activated emergency response procedures and reported the situation. A representative office of Zhong Shui Group Offshore Co., Ltd. coordinated the situation, arranging for another fishing boat, the "Chang Rong 3," to carry medical personnel to the scene. The crew deployed life-saving equipment, transferred the fishermen onto the boat one by one, and provided them with warm clothing, food, and water. Basic medical care was also provided, and the crew tried to calm the frightened fishermen.

After the rescue operation was completed, the ship reported to the Sierra Leone maritime and fisheries authorities as required. Officials from the Sierra Leone Navy and representatives of local media boarded the ship later to visit, and they highly recognized the professional rescue capabilities of the Chinese fishing boat.
