On June 3, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference. A Reuters reporter asked whether China had any response to the Trump administrations decision to impose additional tariffs of 10%-12.5% on 60 economies, including China and Hong Kong, China. The US had previously deemed these economies unable to curb trade in products involving forced labor.
Mao Ning stated that China has always opposed all forms of unilateral tariff measures. Tariff wars and trade wars do not serve the interests of any party. Economic and trade issues should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation on an equal, respectful, and mutually beneficial basis.
Some reporters asked further questions regarding this issue. Mao Ning stated that I have just explained Chinas stance on the issue of tariffs. There is no such thing as forced labor in China, and we also oppose using this as a pretext for political manipulation.
