According to Xinhua News Agency, the third batch of Ebola prevention and treatment expert group from China arrived in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo, on August 1st to help local efforts in building a strong defense against Ebola virus.
The representative of the Ministry of Health of Congo, Lucu Malius, welcomed the expert group at the airport. He stated that the situation regarding Ebola prevention and control in Congo is still severe, and the efforts to prevent and control the disease continue to face significant challenges. The arrival of the Chinese expert group will provide strong support for Congo's efforts in disease monitoring, patient treatment, and laboratory testing. Congo is willing to strengthen cooperation with China to jointly enhance its ability to respond to epidemics.
The leader of the third batch of expert team, Yang Xiaochen, said that the expert team will continue to provide technical assistance on the basis of the work carried out by the previous two batches of expert teams. It will also cooperate deeply with the Congolese health authorities and relevant international partners, aiming to contribute to the early conclusion of the Ebola epidemic in Congo (RDC).
It is reported that the members of the third batch of experts from China come from institutions such as the National Health Commission, the General Administration of Customs, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Their expertise covers epidemiology, health quarantine, clinical treatment, and pathogen laboratory testing, and they have practical experience in epidemic prevention and control.
The Ministry of Health of Congo (RDC) announced on August 1 that as of July 31, there have been a total of 3,674 confirmed cases of Ebola virus in the country, with 1,621 deaths.
The World Health Organization announced on its official website on the 1st that this outbreak has become the largest Ebola outbreak in recorded history in Congo.
Currently, there is no approved vaccine or specific treatment for the Bdubjoe strain of Ebola virus that is prevalent during this outbreak. Relevant research institutions have initiated trials of various candidate drugs and vaccines.
