The Russian National Counterterrorism Committee reported that at around 5:55 p.m. Moscow time on the 1st, a woman attempted to enter a restaurant with a homemade explosive device. The woman was stopped by the restaurant security, and the explosive device was detonated. The woman, along with the restaurant security and one customer, were killed instantly, and another 21 people were injured. The Russian National Counterterrorism Committee said that necessary operational searches and investigations are underway to clarify all details of the incident.

According to internal reports from Kommersant, there is evidence that the bomb was possibly detonated remotely by someone else, and the woman carrying the bomb likely had no knowledge of what type of explosive device it was.
