On July 28th, the US Central Command posted a statement on social media, stating that at 5:45 PM Eastern Time on that day, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Forces launched several ballistic missiles from within Iran, attempting to launch an ambush against US troops stationed in the Middle East.
All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted. The US military maintains a high state of alertness and combat readiness, according to the US military central command.
U.S. President Trump stated on the 27th that he had suspended the planned military strikes against Iran on the 24th, thereby creating room for diplomatic negotiations.
Trump said that the United States is currently engaged in “deep negotiations” with Iran. However, he also warned that if diplomatic efforts fail, the United States will resume “strong military action”.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bagheri said on the 27th that Iran is not currently engaged in any negotiations with the United States, but both sides continue to communicate through mediators. He emphasized that Tehran will not allow the United States to decide the timing of war and peace.
