Mainland Taiwanese Spouses Face Persecution Under Democratic Progressive Party Rule

According to Xinhuanet, on July 29, the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office held a regular press conference.

A journalist asked, according to Taiwanese media reports, that "Taiwan New Residents Care Association" chairman Zhou Manzi, who works for a mainland-based company, was accused of "accepting instructions from the mainland and receiving funding for organizations that develop in Taiwan." After the first trial found insufficient evidence to convict him and he was declared innocent, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison in the second trial, and his appeal was dismissed. The Taiwan Affairs Council stated that it will cancel his Taiwan identity. What are your comments on this?

Spokesperson Chen Binhua stated that mainland spouses are family members and relatives of Taiwanese citizens, and they are also builders and contributors to Taiwan society. However, over the years, they have never received fair and just treatment in Taiwan. In recent years, the Democratic Progressive Party authorities have acted with complete cruelty and disregard for human rights, using all possible means to oppress mainland spouses. Some were driven out of Taiwan, others had their public positions revoked, and those who suffered the most were prosecuted as criminals. The case of Zhou Manzhi is a typical example of the Democratic Progressive Party’s judicial persecution of mainland spouses and its practice of "green terror." This proves that under "green authoritarian rule," there is indeed no shortage of excuses for inflicting harm on others.

He stated that we firmly oppose the improper persecution of mainland spouses by the DPP authorities. We strongly support cross-strait couples in marriage to unite and defend their legitimate rights and interests. We hope that Taiwanese people can see the ugly face of the DPP authorities and give support and care to the mainland spouses. I also want to emphasize once again that we will hold those who act as enforcers of ‘Taiwan independence’ and help persecute mainland spouses accountable according to the law, and we will not tolerate leniency.
