The seismic intensity reached 7 on the Richter scale, and the depth of the quake's focal point was 10 kilometers.
Due to several nuclear power plants in the Kysushian region of Japan, there are concerns about the safety of these facilities following the earthquake. According to a report by the Japanese Kyodo News, after the strong earthquake, the Japan Atomic Safety Administration announced that "no abnormalities have been detected at the Kawachi nuclear power plant in Kagoshima Prefecture, the Kaihai nuclear power plant in Saga Prefecture, and the Ibaraki nuclear power plant in Ehime Prefecture." Reading from surrounding monitoring stations also showed no abnormalities.
According to Japan Kyushu Electric Power Company, due to the earthquake, it is expected that 47,580 households in Kumamoto Prefecture will experience power outages.
